Strong,
haviest riffs, riffs and more riffs, top fuel cars, few but
agressive vocal, simple melodies, analogic equipments. If
there are a Stoner Rock formula, this is. In almost all
columns there is a Stoner Rock album, as Nebula and Spiritual
Beggars, for example. This CD-Teca will show you some
essential albuns. If you like(d) go to www.stonerrock.com. |
Legends:
N - Nacional I - Importado |
|
Kyuss - Blues For The
Red Sun (Warner) 1992 N
Kyuss was the most important band in Stoner Rock comcept.
The problem was that they launched their albums between "grunge
invasion" and how they weren't from Seattle, the critics
forgot them, and now in 21st century, they are known as the
creators of Stoner Rock. After some years, the vocal formed
Unida and guitar player with the bassist formed Queens Of The
Stone Age. This is their second and the best album, recorded
live in studio. Essential for good rock lovers. Allen's Wrench
and Green Machine are classics. (DPJ) |
Atomic Bitchwax -
Atomic Bitchwax (MIA) 1999 I
Member of the psychedelic vein of Stoner Rock, that mix the
riffs with 70's instrumental trips, these band is a side
project of Monster Magnet is lead guitarist Ed Mundell,
ex-Godspeed bassist/vocalist Chris Kosnik and drummer Keith
Ackerman and is a reference of this style, with Nebula. This
is their first album and has the tracks Shit Kicker and Hey
Alright as eminence. (DPJ) |

Mushroom River Band -
Music for the World Beyond (Meteorcity) 2000 I
First album of this excelent swedish band that recently
launched a new album, but talking about it, the Stoner Rock is
perfectly played, with strong and haviest riffs, agressive
vocals (tha sometimes sounds like John Garcia of Kyuss and
Unida). The best are the "fast" songs as To The
World Beyound and Mud Crusher .(DPJ)
|
Unida - Coping with
the Urban Coyote (Man's Ruin) 1999 I
Kyuss ex-vocalist John Garcia that after Slo Burn project,
seems that found the way with this band. It sounds more rock
n' roll as in Kyuss, as in Thorn that has a Motorhead bass
line and Stray Leaf that reminds Led Zeppelin. (DPJ) |
|
Fu Manchu - King of
the Road (Mammoth) 2000 I
They usually don't talk with the crowd during the show, but
who cares ? They play a Stoner Rock with vestiges of modernity,
mainly in the drums sound and "abuse" of wha wha
efect in the guitar.Guitarist Eddie Glass and drummer Ruben
Romano left the band in 1997 to form Nebula and Kyuss drummer
Brant Bjork joined whit the band in the same year. In this
album, the vocal is a little bite. Eminence for the tracks
Over The Edge, Grasschopper and the Devo's cover Freedom of
Choice.(DPJ)

Queens Of The Stone
Age - Queens Of The Stone Age (Roadrunner) 2000 N
In this first album of two Kyuss "remanescentes"
(the vocalist and guitarrist Josh Homme and bssist Nick
Oliveri), they already have Stoner roots. They played in Rock
In Rio 3 and unfortunately got known by crazy Nick performance
that played his bass nude (it wasn't the first time) than by
the great show. This album is a transition. The song Regular
John is pure Stoner Rock and in the track Avon, they mix it
with a little power pop, showing new ways to Stoner Rock music. (DPJ)
